Static line jump: What is this?

I recently discovered something on the opposite scale, you could say, to skydiving: A Static line parachute jump.

A Static line parachute jump is different because you jump solo, as although you train with an instructor, you don't jump with the instructor.
I find this a very interesting concept, as the most common form of parachute jumping I've heard of, is when you jump with your instructor  and in most cases, it costs a LOT to take part, even with Charity places, as you have to have a minimum sponsorship amount, and to cover insurance, etc.

However with Static line jump, you can jump on your own, after a minimum of 6 hours training, which covers all the safety information and rules/regulations you have to follow.
You don't need to have had any previous experience, as you get a good big chunk of training, in about a day's session.
I also saw on the UK Skydiving Adventures website that it can cost as little as £35! For a single jump!
I think thats a good price myself, and i'm talking as someone who's never done a parachute jump or something similar.
From a personal point of view, it can be more of a personal achievement, but maybe thats down to the individual themself?

The age limit they say is 16, with anyone up to 54 years of age can take part!

I believe for other types of jumps you have to be 18 years old, or 16 (but with your parents consent).

I found this information out on the UK's Skydiving Adventures website, under Static Line, and if your anything like me and don't know the first thing then I would recommend reading this page!

Why do people decide to do Parachute jumps/Skydives?

So Im writing a blog as a kind of introduction to the world of parachute jumping and skydiving.
Aswell as finding interesting, funny, and always inspiring video clips, I want to explore the many different reasons why people decided to do/take up parachute jumping and/or skydiving.

So I tweeted asking my followers some of the reason why people decided to take up parachute jumping and skydiving, and I got a few responses.
One person called Terry said he did a jump because it was on his bucket list and is up for trying anything once. He also added that it was great adrenaline rush but over far too quick!

I find that comment very interesting, as through my research online, I've found various blogs on the topic of jumps and skydives, with the most common reasons seeming to be that people do it as they haven't done it before, as something to tick off their bucket list, perhaps.

I can see the exciting element of it, as your going out of your comfort zone, which can be exciting and a new challenge, but also scary at the same time if you've never done it before, like myself!

I found the UK Skydiving Adventures website which shows you all the available options on how to carry out a tandem skydive or parachute jumping, whether your jumping for charity or yourself

I also know its a popular choice to raise money for charity aswell as gaining a new experience. Its usually a charity close to that person's heart, e.g. I know a local charity to me Against Breast Cancer, many of their supporters and people who choose to jump or do another event for them, either know someone whos had breast cancer or been closely affected.

The charity run parachute jumps + skydives,
for more information visit their website: AgainstBreastCancer charity skydive

From what I've seen so far on my journey to explore this world, these are the 2 main reasons why people choose to take part.

If anyone has any other reasons, do send me a message on my Facebook page Naomi_18 or tweet me at Parachute_jump , id be happy to hear from you as Im really keen to find out more about this interesting activity, and hobby to some!
